The River Brathay drains all the hills in the Langdale area, and takes water from Little Langdale Tarn to Elterwater. Along its way the river runs over a series of cascades, one of the most beautiful being Colwith Force, with a drop in several stages down a total height of about 40 feet. The falls also provide water to the small hydroelectric plant shown in the image.
